1. I want to know more about the Pharmacy program, what are the entry requirements, fees and intake?

2. I just joined this semester. How do I defer my studies?

You can defer your intake by submitting an application for deferment form to our Admissions Office. More information and application form is available here.

3. What is the tuition fee for the BPharm course?

Tuition fee for 2020 is about RM 53,025 per year for Malaysian students and about RM 59,996 per year for International students. Fees are subject to revision. Miscellaneous fees such as purchase of lab coat, books, and graduation fees are not included.

4. What are the minimum entry requirements for GCE A Level results to enter pharmacy degree at Monash Malaysia?

The minimum requirement for GCE A Level is 12 points based on total maximum 3 subjects (excluding General Studies). The pre-requisite subjects are Chemistry (minimum B), Mathematics (minimum C) and Biology (minimum C).

Note: Malaysian applicants must also pass Bahasa Melayu and English with minimum C grade in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or equivalent.

5. I just graduated from MUFY this May (July 20xx intake). I would like to ask about why I have not received the offer letter from Monash University. I would like to study Pharmacy this coming February.

Monash University offers one (1) intake per year only in February for the Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) degree. We require details of completed year 12 results to assess your eligibility for admission.

You can apply online for the coming intakeand submit the relevant documents for assessment.

6. May I know if there is any credit exemption available?

There is no credit exemption given for the Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) course and you will have to commence from Year One.

7. What is the English Test required for entry into the Pharmacy course?

For English language proficiency, higher scores and specific entry requirements are required for the Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours). 

• IELTS: minimum test score of 7.0 overall and at least 6.5 in each individual band; or
• Paper-based TOEFL: minimum test score of 587; or
• Internet based TOEFL: minimum test score of 94

8. Is the BPharm course in Monash Malaysia accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA)?

The Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons) program is accredited by the Pharmacy Board of Malaysia and recognised by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA). The program is also accredited by the Australian Pharmacy Council.

9. I would like to apply for the Monash Pharmacy Excellence Scholarship. How do I apply?

10. I am currently a Year 1 student. Can I apply for the Pharmacy Excellence Scholarship?

The Pharmacy Excellence Scholarship is only applicable for the new intake students (on a yearly basis). It is not applicable for current students.

1. Can I get more information on the intercampus transfer program?

Students with a minimum weighted average mark of 60% can apply to transfer to Australia. Students can apply for transfer after completion of year 1 or year 2. Transfer is not applicable for third year or fourth year students.

2. Can I get more information on the intercampus exchange program?

Students can apply for global intercampus exchange (minimum WAM of 60%) to Parkville campus, Australia. The exchange program is only applicable for Year 2 Semester 2, and Year 3 Semester 1. Only 5 slots are available each semester. Students will pay the usual tuition fee in Malaysia campus. Other costs for exchange, including travel, accommodation, cost of living will be borne by the students themselves.

3. If I transfer to Australia campus and complete the pharmacy course in Australia, am I eligible to register with the Pharmacy Board of Australia?

Yes, you can. Students who transfer to Australia will be treated as Australian graduates.

3. I am a Malaysian. If I transfer to Monash Australia campus and complete the pharmacy course in Australia, am I eligible to register with the Pharmacy Board of Malaysia (PBM) if I return to Malaysia?

Yes, you can. You will need to undertake the pharmacy qualifying exam as required by the Pharmacy Board of Malaysia (PBM) in order for one to get registered and practise as a pharmacist in Malaysia. As long as the student wants to work in Malaysia, he/she needs to take the exam. The exam can be taken when they return to Malaysia. They need to pass the exam before they can start practising as a pharmacist in Malaysia. The graduate can register for the exam with PBM directly to undertake the exam.

1. I need to take a break from my studies due to personal medical reasons. Can I apply for intermission?

Yes, you can. More information and the application form is available here.

2. Do I need to allocate my timetable?

As for the timetable allocations, students will be pre-grouped by School and you do not have to allocate your timetable. This is to avoid any clash in classes that may be conducted concurrently.

3. I am not able to access the Moodle page for a unit. Whom do I contact for help?

Please contact the respective unit coordinators for further assistance. You may obtain their contact details via the Monash Handbook.

4. How can I apply for special consideration for my in-semester assessment?

If you're unable to attend a class, complete an assessment or assignment due to exceptional reasons out of your control, you can apply for special consideration. Approval for the special consideration is not guaranteed and, upon approval, does not lead to a mark adjustment. If you're successful in your application, you may get an extension, another alternative assessment or a deferred assessment.

5. As an international student, is it compulsory for me to undertake Malay Language?

As a student at our Malaysian campus, it is a Ministry of Education requirement for you to successfully enrol in and complete some of the General Studies units before you graduate. The following are the compulsory General Studies units for international students:

• MPU 3173 Malaysian Studies 3
• MPU3143 Communicative Malay 2

6. Is the pharmacy course syllabus delivered in Monash Malaysia the same as the one delivered in Monash Australia?

Yes, we use the same syllabus and teaching methods as Monash Australia.

1. After graduating, will the pharmacist training and compulsory service be completed in Malaysia or Australia?

If you transfer to Australia campus (1+3 or 2+2), you will need to complete an internship in Australia in order to be registered with the Pharmacy Board of Australia.

If you complete all 4 years of the course in Malaysia campus, you will be required to undergo and complete a one-year training as a Provisionally Registered Pharmacist (PRP), then continue with one year of compulsory service as a Fully Registered Pharmacist (FRP) at the approved training premises.

You are encouraged to refer to the Pharmacy Board of Malaysia website for further information, as terms and conditions may change from time to time.

2. Will the School of Pharmacy, Monash Malaysia assist in the application for PRP training?

Students are required to apply for PRP training on their own.

3. When do students have to sit for a Pharmacy Qualifying Examination?

Based on the latest requirement by the Pharmacy Board of Malaysia (PBM), students need to pass the qualifying exam before they register with PBM. The exam will be arranged with PBM and administered on campus (Monash Malaysia) once a year in the month of March. There is no exam fee incurred. The exam is conducted in English.

Note:

• The exam is not part of the Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) course, so there will NOT be any lecture or class conducted for this.
• If a student fails the qualifying exam, he/she is still eligible to graduate from the BPharm (Hons) course. They can arrange to sit for the qualifying exam with PBM. Students must pass the exam in order to be a fully registered pharmacist. The maximum number of times for re-sit is three (3).

4. I wish to undergo registration as a foreign-trained pharmacist under Singapore Pharmacy Council (SPC). As from the website of SPC, it mentioned that Monash University Australia is recognized by the council, but obviously I am from the Malaysian campus. Will my certificate be still acceptable?

Unfortunately, Singapore Pharmacy Board accepts only graduates who have completed the entire course duration (4 years) in the Australia campus.

5. What is the professional training that the students will undergo during their studies in Monash?

Students will be placed in different pharmacy settings for training. These include hospital placements, industrial placements as well as placements in community pharmacies. Starting from Year 2, students are expected to have placements every semester and each placement duration is between one to four weeks, depending on the specific objectives of each placement. The placement sites where the students will be assigned during their placements duration will highly depend on the sites’ availability and capacity. The placements schedule is incorporated into their timetable, so it will not affect their on-campus classes. The placements will either take place during the semester or during the semester breaks, depending on the program timetable. During the placements, students will have an exposure to real-world professional practice and will be guided by experienced practicing professionals.

6. What are the job prospects?

Graduates will be able to find employment in the following sectors:

• Hospitals (government or private);
• Community pharmacies (such as Watson’s, Guardian, Caring);
• Government, Ministry of Health (regulatory affairs officer, national pharmaceutical control bureau officer);
• Pharmaceutical industries (e.g Pfizer, GSK, Novartis, Roche, Hovid, CCM, Apex, Kotra Pharma, Pharmaniaga);
• Academia and research

7. If I do not have SPM, can I still apply for PRP?

Yes, you can. However, SPM Bahasa Melayu is required if you would like to undertake your PRP in a government hospital. This is required by the Suruhanjaya Perkhidmatan Awam (SPA).

8. I am a Malaysian. If I complete the whole Bachelor of Pharmacy course and graduate from Monash Australia campus, can I still register with the Pharmacy Board of Malaysia (PBM) if I return to Malaysia?

Yes, you can. You will need to undertake the pharmacy qualifying exam as required by the Pharmacy Board of Malaysia (PBM) in order for one to get registered and practise as a pharmacist in Malaysia.
